GMMS: Glass Cutting Optimization

GMMS works out how to cut each batch of glass orders from your stock sheets, so the same pieces come out of fewer sheets.

  • Guillotine cuts in three stages
  • The best of five cutting strategies
  • A time limit for each glass type

How it works

Less glass in the offcuts

Three-stage guillotine cutting

Every cut runs the full width of the sheet or strip, the way glass is cut. GMMS plans each sheet in three stages of such cuts and keeps improving the plan while it has time.

  • Every cut runs the full width
  • Three stages per sheet
  • Fewer sheets for the same batch

The best of five strategies

Its own plan competes with four other cutting strategies, and the batch uses whichever comes out best.

A time limit per glass type

You set how long the optimizer may search for each glass type. When time is up, it returns the best plan it has found.

A record of every run

Each optimization run is logged, including whether it reached its time limit.

A real result

On a real production batch, the plan went from 448 sheets to 431, and glass yield rose from 83.9% to 87.2%.
